DescriptionA rural town servicing the surrounding farming areas, the area is steeped in history from the days of the gold miners and early settlers. Often used as a stopping place for refreshments when travelling between Nelson and Christchurch or Nelson to the West Coast. Each summer, Murchison is a mecca for visitors seeking the great outdoors - fishing, rafting, walking, white water kayaking, jet boats, horse treks, mountain biking and gold panning. There is a wide range of accommodation available ranging from backpackers, campgrounds to luxury lodges in spectacular settings. The local museum has information on local people and events. The Murchison golf course is set alongside the Buller River - nine holes in a lovely setting.
